About Us at Plastic Free Truro

Who We Are

We are a small community group based in Truro, Cornwall created in November 2017 in response to the growing problem of plastic litter in our towns, rivers and oceans. We responded to an open call from the marine and conservation charity, Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) to work with them in order to meet particular objectives and have our town awarded Plastic Free Community status by them.

What We Do

Our mission is to help address our community’s casual dependence on single use plastics (SUPs) by engaging local schools, businesses, children’s and adult’s clubs and community groups, councils and wider networks to affect real world change in our everyday habits and attitudes toward SUPs.

Plastic Free Truro - SAS Approved

After a lot of hard work we achieved the necessary objectives in June 2018!

Our Plans

We are now focused on continuing to educate and inform through fun and engaging events and activities and displays.  We have ambitions to open a monthly repair shop for people in our city to come and have help repairing broken items; to have a ‘library of things’ where people can come and freely borrow items that otherwise would have to be bought or hired like party items; tableware; DIY tools; vacuum cleaners etc.  We would also receive items to give away like used paint!  All useful stuff that we may all need at one point or another and would otherwise be thrown away by the current owner!

We would like to have workshops and clinics to help people of Truro with any queries or practical concerns they have with recycling and re-purposing.

We would also like to be a place to bring together our lovely community.  We will do this through events and the promotion of groups, charities and businesses that promote sustainability, an appreciation of our environment, our culture and arts, kindness and creativity  We love our city and want you to, too!

A space for our chat!  This is our new website, launching 1st August 2018, so we’ll have this section up and running later in the month.

We aim to talk you through recycling, avoiding waste, repurposing and all things plastic-free
